Saving San Diego: Free mobile Showers

If you haven’t seen it already, Stronger Than The Streets is currently developing San Diego Crossroads, a platform designed to more easily connect all of the homelessness oriented resources the city of San Diego has to offer. Throughout the development of the platform, I have gotten the chance to get to know a ton of different resources that both the city and private organizations have to offer. Recently, one of the most surprising resources that I have come across is a mobile free shower service, offering free showers to those who need it the most. Lets explore this service a bit more.

Operated by Rescue Mission ever since summer 2023, the organization, as they have put it, are “Offering basic hygiene and friendship to our neighbors without homes through the dignity of a hot shower.” Operating 2 mobile shower trucks, they offer their service multiple times a week to multiple locations around the county.

Prior to discovering this service, I had not known about services like these, let alone how big of an issue hygiene can be for the homeless population. I accredit Rescue Mission for their continued dedication to helping solve homelessness, and their unique approach to a universal homeless problem.
