Introducing: The Crossroads Youth Advisory Council!
When Crossroads was featured on NBC 7 News and ABC 10 News, the site gained a ton of exposure with organizations around San Diego. Unexpectedly, the site also reached many people my own age who, once they heard about it, reached out to see if they could join our fight to end homelessness. Once I spoke with them and discovered just how motivated they were to help people experiencing homelessness, I knew I had to find a way to bring our efforts together. The solution: create a Youth Advisory Council to amplify each of our voices and expand our impact across the state of California.

What the YAC will do
The Crossroads Youth Advisory Council has two main goals: to advocate and to facilitate change. To advocate, the YAC has a dedicated social media manager who has set up an Instagram page for the council to advocate for housing rights digitally (please follow @crossroadsyac). The account posts about two to three times a week on topics ranging from facts about homelessness to spotlights on local community projects. To facilitate change, the council is also coordinating our efforts to better help the unhoused community. If one person is leading a project in their city, all members will offer advice and promote their work. If another member is looking for new ways to help their city, the council will come together to support the brainstorming process. The point is that we are combining our efforts to increase our impact.
To conclude, the creation of the Crossroads Youth Advisory Council marks a gaint leap in the impact Crossroads will be able to make. With members in cities all across California, Crossroads can also possible expand there. The YAC also serves as an opportunity to elevate youth voices across the nation, to give them a chance to help advocate for the United States most vulnerable population, that being the Unhoused.
